Ear Perforations

Ear perforations are more commonly known as burst ear drums and are caused by tears in the ear drum which partitions the middle ear from the ear canal. Perforations of the ear drum can be as a result of acute outer or middle ear infections, trauma which can be accidental physical trauma (cotton ear buds, sharp pins) or acoustic trauma like loud blasts. Ear perforations can cause symptoms like a sudden loss of hearing or muffled hearing, earache, itching, fluid leaking, fever and a ringing within your ear known as tinnitus. The management of ear perforations could involve conservative measures (antibiotics, ear drops if attributed to infections) or surgical to close the perforation of the ear drum.
